Abarth Punto and Linea Android head units – what you need to know
The Abarth Grande Punto and the Abarth Punto Evo are members of the Fiat Grande Punto family, and the centre section of the dashboard – including the radio aperture and the vents – is the same as on the Fiat versions, and on the Fiat Linea too. That is why the same 7-inch Android head unit kit fits all of them, and why both the Fiat and the Abarth name appear in the product title. The unit goes in place of the original radio with a model-specific frame and a plug-in wiring loom, so nothing has to be cut, soldered or trimmed from a universal frame, and the installation can be reversed at any time. The specification includes an eight-core processor, an HD touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, GPS navigation with Waze and Google Maps support, Bluetooth hands-free calling, a reversing camera input and a multi-language menu; the factory steering wheel controls keep working after the learning procedure. Two things are worth checking before ordering. One is the shape of the radio aperture: the form of the centre console changed subtly over the Grande Punto's life, so the safest thing is to send a photo of the centre section of the dashboard. The other is the factory sound system: if the car has the amplified version, let us know in advance, because the wiring differs. It is worth knowing that the Grande Punto family was built on the SCCS floorpan shared by Fiat and General Motors, the same one as the Opel Corsa D – but a shared floorpan does not mean a shared dashboard, so do not try to fit an Opel frame. Which Punto versions does this unit suit?
The Grande Punto, the Punto Evo and the version sold simply as the Punto from 2012, plus the Fiat Linea, in the 2009-2016 model years. The older Punto built between 1999 and 2010 was given a different dashboard and it does not fit that.
Do the Abarth and the Fiat Punto take the same unit?
Yes. The Abarth version got a sportier suspension, engine and seats, but the centre section of the dashboard is identical, so the same frame and wiring loom fit them.
Is there a 9-inch version for this model too?
At the moment we stock the 7-inch version that fits the factory aperture, because on the Grande Punto console that gives a clean, original look. If you would like a larger screen, get in touch and we will see what we can source.
What happens to the factory Blue&Me system?
The Android head unit replaces the factory unit and with it the Blue&Me interface, and in return you get more up-to-date Bluetooth hands-free calling, CarPlay and Android Auto. If you want to keep Blue&Me, let us know, because that needs a separate solution.
Can I fit it myself?
The kit comes with a plug-in wiring loom, so nothing has to be cut or soldered - with a little manual skill it can be fitted at home, typically in one to two hours. Every head unit carries a 2-year warranty.
