Mitsubishi ASX Android head units (2010–2021) – what you need to know

The Mitsubishi ASX is one of the best-loved Japanese crossovers on Hungarian roads, which is why the most common question we get is which Android head unit fits it. The answer does not depend on the model year but on how the centre of the dashboard is shaped: the radio surround changed during the ASX's production run, so our range lists the head unit for the 2010–2014 version and for the facelift built from 2014 separately. Electronically the two units do the same thing – an eight-core processor, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, GPS navigation with Waze and Google Maps support, Bluetooth hands-free calling, a multi-language menu – the difference is in the size of the frame and the layout of the connectors. If you are unsure, take a photo of the centre of the dashboard and we will tell you by e-mail which kit is right. You will find the reversing camera for the ASX here too: the FullHD 1080P camera that fits above the number plate or behind the tailgate handle is a precise fit, and wired into the head unit it switches on automatically when you select reverse. It is worth knowing that the ASX is practically the same car as the Peugeot 4008 and the Citroën C4 Aircross, because they were built on the same Japanese production line. That relationship is useful when looking for parts, but the radio frame and the connectors can differ between the brands, so always choose a kit made specifically for the ASX. How do I know whether I need the 2010-2014 or the post-2014 facelift head unit?

Do not decide on the model year - look at the centre of the dashboard: the shape of the frame around the factory radio changed at the model update, and in the transitional years both versions occur. If it is not clear, send us a photo of the centre section of the dashboard and we will write back to say which kit fits your car.

Are the steering wheel buttons retained after the swap?

Yes. The head unit comes with a learnable steering wheel control system, so volume, track skip and answering calls can still be controlled from the wheel after the installation. The learning procedure takes a few minutes in the menu.

Does it have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?

Yes, both. The phone can be connected wirelessly or with a USB cable, and Waze, Google Maps, Spotify or YouTube Music can be used directly on the head unit screen.

Does the reversing camera have to be ordered separately?

Yes, the camera is a separate product, but you will find the FullHD 1080P camera for the ASX on this same page. Wired into the head unit, the picture appears automatically when you select reverse, with no separate switch.

Can I fit it myself, and what warranty comes with it?

The kit comes with a factory-plug wiring loom, so nothing has to be cut or soldered - with a little manual skill it can be fitted at home, typically in one to two hours. Every head unit carries a 2-year warranty, and we are happy to help with the post-installation setup by phone.
