Kia Sportage and Sorento Android head units – what you need to know
The Kia Sportage and the Sorento are the brand's two most popular SUVs in Hungary, and replacing the factory radio is a common request on both – in the older model years the factory unit is still a CD radio, without a screen, navigation or smartphone connectivity. The Android head units here come with a model-specific frame and a factory-plug wiring loom, so they go into the factory position without cutting or drilling. The Sportage 3 (SL, 2010–2015) is the sister model of the Hyundai ix35, and the Sorento 2 (XM, 2009–2012) shares its platform with the Hyundai Santa Fe – the platform and the engines are shared, but the dashboard and the radio aperture differ between the brands, so you always have to order a Kia-specific kit. On the Sportage 4 (QL) the 2018 facelift brought a new screen surround, as did the 2012 update on the Sorento 2 – if your car is close to the cut-off year, a single photo of the dashboard is enough for us to tell you which unit is right. Does the Sportage 4 unit also suit the 2016 model year?
The unit was made for the dashboard of the facelifted Sportage 4 (QL) built from 2018. The screen surround of the early 2016-2018 QL may differ, so for that model year please send us a photo of the dashboard first and we will confirm the exact fit.
What is the difference between the Sportage 3 and Sportage 4 units?
The dashboard and radio aperture of the two generations are completely different, so the frame, the screen size and the wiring loom all differ. The head units for the Sportage 3 (SL, 2010-2015) and the Sportage 4 (QL, 2018-2021) are not interchangeable.
Can a unit made for the Hyundai ix35 be fitted to a Sportage 3?
No. The Kia Sportage 3 (SL) and the Hyundai ix35 (LM) are sister models built on the same platform, but the shape of the dashboard and the size of the radio aperture differ. We only recommend the Kia-specific kit with its own frame.
Does the Sorento 2 unit suit the 2013-2014 model years?
The unit on offer fits the dashboard of the pre-facelift Sorento 2 (XM) built between 2009 and 2012. The frame of the updated interior built from 2013 is different, so for such a car please get in touch with us first.
Are the factory reversing camera and parking sensors retained?
In most cases yes. The factory camera picture and the parking sensor signal can be carried over to the new head unit with the supplied adapter. Please state your car's specification in the order notes and we will put together the right adapter for it.
