Mazda 6 and CX-7 Android Head Units (2002–2013) – what you need to know
The Mazda 6 and the Mazda CX-7 are built on a shared technical base, which is why we treat them on one page: the CX-7 built between 2006 and 2012 derives from the platform of the Mazda 6 GG. Our range includes the 9-inch Android head unit for the first generation Mazda 6 GG (2002–2008), the second generation Mazda 6 GH (2007–2013) and the CX-7, as well as the matching reversing camera – which can also be fitted to the Mazda RX-8. The units go in place of the factory radio with a model-specific frame and wiring loom, so the appearance of the dashboard is unchanged and nothing has to be cut or soldered. Every head unit supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a full multi-language menu, the Google Play store, Waze, Google Maps and Sygic navigation, Bluetooth hands-free calling, FM/RDS radio, and WiFi and 4G internet. The supplied CAN-BUS adapter keeps the factory steering wheel buttons, the parking sensor warnings and the climate display working, and the factory Bose sound system stays in place. The units are available at STANDARD, PRO, ELITE and PREMIUM level, differing in processor, memory (from 2+32 GB to 8+128 GB), screen resolution, built-in DSP audio processor and 360-degree camera support. Why are the Mazda 6 and the CX-7 on one page?
Because they are technically related: the Mazda CX-7 built between 2006 and 2012 was based on the platform of the first generation Mazda 6 (GG), and the dashboard layout and radio aperture size are similar too. That does not mean every part is interchangeable, so before ordering it is worth comparing your factory radio surround with the product photo, or checking with us.
Which unit belongs in which Mazda 6 generation?
The 2002-2008 first generation (GG) and the 2007-2013 second generation (GH) take separate head units, because the radio surround and the connector differ. You will find both on this page. If the model year does not make it clear - production of the two generations overlapped by a year - send us a photo of your factory radio and we will tell you which is right.
Does the reversing camera also suit the Mazda RX-8?
Yes. The 76x26 mm FullHD reversing camera offered for the Mazda 6 GH also fits the number plate light position of the Mazda RX-8, because the two models use the same housing. The camera can be used together with the head unit or on its own with an existing factory screen.
Are the factory Bose sound system and the steering wheel controls retained?
Yes. The factory Bose amplifier stays in place and the head unit connects to it with the appropriate adapter. The CAN-BUS adapter keeps the factory steering wheel buttons, the audible and on-screen parking sensor warnings and the climate display working. At the higher specification levels a built-in DSP audio processor also helps fine-tune the sound.
What is the warranty and is the installation difficult?
Every head unit and reversing camera comes with a 2-year warranty and a Hungarian invoice. The unit connects to the factory plugs with a model-specific wiring loom, so in most cases the installation can be done at home and is reversible. If you would rather leave it to a professional, our partner workshops at several locations across Hungary will fit it - call us on +36 76 200 246.
