Alfa Romeo 159, Brera and Spider Android head units – what you need to know
The Alfa Romeo 159, the Brera and the Spider are built on the same 939 platform, and what matters for a radio swap is this: the centre section of the dashboard, including the radio aperture and the surround, is identical in all three. That is why the same 7-inch Android head unit kit fits the 159 saloon, the 159 Sportwagon estate, the Brera coupe and the Spider convertible alike. The unit goes in place of the original radio with a model-specific frame and a plug-in wiring loom, so the dashboard does not have to be cut and the installation can be reversed at any time. The specification includes an eight-core processor, an HD touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, GPS navigation, Bluetooth hands-free calling, a reversing camera input and a multi-language menu; the factory steering wheel controls keep working after the learning procedure. Two things are worth clarifying before ordering. One is the sound system: the Bose system was an option in the 159 family, it works with a separate amplifier, and in that case the wiring differs from the standard version – if there is a Bose badge on the door trim, do tell us. It is also important to know that the 939 platform does not extend to the rest of the Alfa range: the dashboards of the 147, the 156, the GT, the MiTo, the Giulietta, the Giulia and the Stelvio are different, and this kit does not fit them. Does it also suit the Giulietta, the MiTo or the 147?
No. These models have a different dashboard and radio aperture, so they need a different frame and a different wiring loom. If you have one of those, write to us and we will see whether we can source a unit for it.
What about the factory Bose sound system?
The Bose system works with a separate amplifier, so its wiring differs from the standard version. Do let us know before ordering if your car has Bose, so that we can supply the right adapter with it.
Are the steering wheel controls and the factory display retained?
The steering wheel buttons keep working after the learning procedure. The small display in the instrument cluster belongs to the car's own on-board computer, and the swap does not affect it.
