Porsche Android Head Units – what you need to know
The first generation Porsche Cayenne is now thoroughly affordable used, but its on-board electronics belong to the early 2000s: the factory radio and the early PCM navigation are slow by today's standards, the map is out of date, and there is no smartphone mirroring at all. TopNAVI's Cayenne Android head unit kit goes in place of the original unit with a model-specific frame and a plug-in wiring loom, so the dashboard does not have to be cut or modified. The specification includes an eight-core processor, an HD touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, GPS navigation, Bluetooth hands-free calling, a reversing camera input and a multi-language menu; the steering wheel buttons are retained after the learning procedure. It is worth knowing that the Cayenne was developed jointly with the Volkswagen Touareg on a shared floorpan, but that means nothing for the radio frame: the dashboards and centre consoles of the two cars differ, so a Touareg frame does not fit a Cayenne, or the other way round. The centre console was reworked in the 2007 facelift, so the model year alone is not enough to identify it – the reliable method is a photo of the centre section of the dashboard. Before buying, also clarify whether the car has the factory Bose sound system, because that has a separate amplifier and the wiring differs from the standard specification. On a Cayenne a reversing camera is no luxury either: the tall, wide body and the short rear window leave a serious blind spot, and the head unit comes with a camera input. Every Porsche head unit we sell carries a 2-year warranty, and items in stock are posted within one working day.
