Porsche Cayenne Android head units (955, 957) – what you need to know

The first generation Porsche Cayenne (955, and after the 2007 facelift 957) was built between 2002 and 2010, and it is still one of the most popular used premium SUVs in Hungary. The factory head unit has become limited by now, though: there is no smartphone mirroring, the navigation map has not been updated for years, and the CD-based system is slow. The Android head unit offered here fits into the Cayenne's centre console, with a wiring loom made for the factory connectors – nothing has to be cut or drilled, and the installation is reversible.

There are two things to watch. One is the facelift: the centre console of the pre-2007 (955) and post-2007 (957) cars is laid out differently, so before ordering please send us a photograph of the area around your current radio – that makes it clear which frame is needed. The other is the Bose sound system: if the car has factory Bose, it works with a separate amplifier, which we keep after the head unit is replaced; it simply needs the right adapter.

A common misconception: the Cayenne 955/957 was developed jointly with the first generation Volkswagen Touareg, and the floorpan and many technical elements really are the same – but the dashboard and the radio frame are NOT. A head unit made for the Touareg does not fit the Cayenne. A shared platform does not mean a shared dashboard.

We currently have no head unit for the post-2010 958 Cayenne, but a reversing camera can be ordered for that too.

Which Cayenne is this head unit for?

The first generation Cayenne, that is the 955 (2002-2006) and the 957 (2007-2010). The post-2010 958 generation needs a different frame; for that we can currently offer a reversing camera.

Can a head unit made for the Volkswagen Touareg be fitted to a Cayenne?

No. The Cayenne 955/957 and the first generation Touareg were developed jointly, and the floorpan and many technical elements are the same, but the dashboard and the radio frame differ. A shared platform does not mean a shared dashboard - the Touareg frame does not fit.

How do I know whether my car is pre- or post-facelift?

The 2007 facelift also changed the layout of the centre console. The most reliable method: send us a photograph of the area around your current radio and we will tell you which version you need.

Does it work with the factory Bose sound system?

Yes. The Bose system works with a separate amplifier, which we keep after the head unit is replaced; it simply needs the right adapter. Please state when ordering if the car has Bose.
