Subaru Android Head Units – what you need to know
Subaru owners generally stick with their cars not for the styling but for the boxer engine and the all-wheel drive – and it was precisely in these years that the on-board electronics fell behind the field. The factory head unit of the Forester 3 and Impreza 3 built between 2007 and 2013 is a CD player and radio, in many examples without Bluetooth hands-free calling, and navigation is out of the question. TopNAVI's Subaru Android head unit goes in place of the original radio with a model-specific frame and a plug-in wiring loom, so the dashboard does not have to be cut or modified. Which Subaru models does the unit fit?
The third generation Forester and the third generation Impreza, model years 2007 to 2013. These two models were built on a shared base and the centre section of the dashboard is practically identical, so the same kit belongs in both.
Does it fit the Subaru XV?
The XV is also Impreza-based, so most likely yes, but it is worth checking car by car. Send us a photo of the centre section of the dashboard and we will write back to say whether the frame fits.
Does it fit the older, SG-coded Forester?
No. The dashboard of the Forester built between 2002 and 2008 is built completely differently and this kit is not for it. If you have one, send us a photo and we will see whether there is a solution.
Are the factory functions retained after the swap?
The steering wheel buttons keep working after the learning procedure, the factory speakers and aerial can be used unchanged, and if the car has a reversing camera it can in most cases be rewired to the new head unit.
