Ford Focus 3 and Fiesta MK7 Tesla Style head units – what you need to know

The name „Tesla Style” misleads a lot of people: this is NOT a head unit made for Tesla cars, it is the name of a screen format. The 9.7-inch portrait-orientation display was made famous by the Tesla Model S, and today the format is available for cars from a number of other brands as well. This page brings together the portrait-screen head units for the Ford Focus 3 (2012–2017) and the Ford Fiesta MK7 (2009–2017).

Why is a portrait screen worth choosing? Because a taller screen can show two things at once: navigation on the top half, and music, the phone or the reversing camera picture on the bottom. On a landscape 7-inch screen you have to keep switching between them. On top of that, the factory centre console of the Focus 3 and the Fiesta MK7 – densely covered in buttons – is replaced by a clean surface, which makes the whole cabin look more modern.

There is one thing worth watching out for: the position of the climate control panel depends on the version. In some cars the physical climate panel stays below the screen, in others the controls move onto the display. And to make the most important point clear: a unit like this CANNOT be fitted to a Tesla (Model 3, Model S, Model Y). The Tesla's screen is the control interface for the entire electronics of the vehicle, from the windows to the service menu – it cannot be replaced with an aftermarket unit.
