Which Volkswagen Android head unit fits which VW?
Every head unit is made for a particular model and model-year range. The table below shows the model-specific units available in our shop, with the model years given in the product descriptions.

The Passat B6, B7 and CC are the best-covered family: from 7-inch up to 10-inch, and in the 9-inch you can even choose between two control layouts. For these it is worth going through the Volkswagen head unit collection and filtering for your own model year.
Which screen sizes can you choose from?
The size is tied to the model: not every size goes into every car, because the frame follows the shape of the dashboard. Older models typically take a 7-inch unit, newer ones a 9–10-inch.
- 7": the unit for the Golf 4, Bora, Polo 4 and the older Passats – for example the Volkswagen 7" head unit for the Golf 4, Bora and Polo 4.
- 8" and 9": the range for the Polo 5, Golf 6, Tiguan and Passat B6/B7/CC. For the Passat you can choose between the 9" physical-button and the 9" touch-button versions.
- 10" and 10.1": the large-screen unit for the Golf 7, the Passat B8 and the Passat B6/B7/CC.
On the rotary and physical-button versions, the volume and the basic functions are handled by a physical control you can find without taking your eyes off the road; on the touch-button version everything is on the screen. That is a matter of taste – in operation both do the same.
Android Auto and CarPlay: what does the head unit give you?
Our Volkswagen head units support Android Auto and CarPlay. With these, your phone's interface – navigation, messages, music – appears on the head unit's screen, so it is simpler to use while driving. The descriptions are about integrating your phone's functions into the car.
The specific hardware (RAM, storage, resolution) can vary from model to model, so check those on the relevant product page rather than assuming from the screen size.
What about the wiring loom and the Fakra aerial?
A model-specific head unit is made for the factory connectors, so the frame and the main wiring loom generally fit. On Volkswagens, what we typically see during installation is a Fakra-type aerial plug – a standard, push-fit radio aerial connector.
If the factory aerial plug and the head unit's input do not match, an aerial adapter may be needed. The exact connectors and any required adapters are listed on the product page and in the model table – if you are unsure, ask us before ordering. Where reception is poor, an aerial amplifier can help improve the radio signal.
Important: on cars fitted with the factory wide-screen navigation, or with an optical audio system, the wiring can differ. As with the Golf 7 and the BMWs with wide-screen navigation, several VW models carry a warning in the product description – read it before you order.
Can the factory reversing camera be kept?
If your car has a factory reversing camera, whether it can be kept depends on the model, so it is worth checking compatibility on the product page and with us. If you have no camera, or you want to fit one separately, that is what the universal reversing camera is for.
This camera can be ordered in AHD, 720P and 1080P resolution and comes with a 6-metre wiring loom – usually enough to run the cable from the head unit to the position above the number plate. For made-to-measure solutions, see the model-specific reversing camera collection.
What else do you need for the installation?
Hands-free calling needs a microphone; most head units come with one, but if you want to replace it or put it somewhere better, a separate in-car microphone is available with cable and mount. For removing the old radio we recommend the non-damaging plastic trim removal tool, so you do not scratch the centre console.

Do I need a Fakra aerial adapter for a VW?

Do the factory steering wheel controls keep working?
Handling the steering wheel controls and keeping the factory functions is model-dependent. Since it comes down to the individual car, check the exact information on the product page, or write to us with the model year and specification.
Can the factory reversing camera be kept?

Can I fit it myself?
A model-specific head unit is made for the factory aperture and connectors, so many VW owners fit it themselves. For removing the old radio, the plastic trim removal tool is a damage-free help. Always match the wiring to your own car's factory set-up.
