What is the difference between Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?
The main difference is which phone they were made for. Apple CarPlay is the mirroring system for iPhones, Android Auto for Android phones. In terms of features they are very similar: both show your phone's maps, music apps, messages and calls in a simple, driving-optimised interface on the head unit's touchscreen.
What they have in common: navigation (Google Maps, Waze, Apple Maps), voice control (Siri and Google Assistant respectively), music playback and calling. In daily use the two feel very close — the menu system looks different, and the ecosystem is different (Apple versus Google services).

In practice it is simple: you do not choose the car to suit the system, but the other way round. Your phone decides which one you will use — and if the household has a mix of iPhones and Android phones, it is good if the head unit handles both.
What is the difference between a wired and a wireless connection?
With a wired connection you plug the phone into the head unit with a USB cable; with a wireless one it connects over radio, with no cable. The function is the same, the difference is convenience: with wireless CarPlay or Android Auto you get in, and the phone can stay in your pocket — it connects by itself.
What we typically see during installation is that the wired solution is more stable, and it charges the phone at the same time. Wireless is more convenient, but the phone drains faster because it is not charging, and there can occasionally be a slight delay when connecting. Neither is "better" in absolute terms — they suit different needs.
Important: whether a given head unit can do wired or wireless CarPlay/Android Auto varies from model to model. Always check this on the product page before you order. If the wireless connection is not stated in the description, assume wired, or ask us about it.
Which one suits which phone?
In short: CarPlay for iPhone, Android Auto for Android phones. There is no crossover between the two — you cannot use Android Auto with an iPhone, or the other way round.
